Interactive Spaces
Gilcrease Museum believes that the "hands on" experience is vital to the understanding of both art and history. That's why throughout our museum, you will see signs on special exhibits that say "Please Touch." We provide these objects to complement exhibitions, and several permanent "hands-on" exhibitions are located in the Kravis Discovery Center. In addition, public access computers are available to assist with the study of our collections.
Fun Spaces Bring Happy Faces
Gilcrease has three fun, interactive spaces that bring out the kid in every visitor. Whether you are trying to get in touch with your inner child or to spend time with a child, be sure to stop in and visit the Creative Learning Center, Kids Site and the Kravis Discovery Center! All spaces are open during regular museum hours and staffed at various times throughout the week.
Creative Learning Center
The CLC is a space where visitors can explore art materials, read books and use touchable objects, all of which will enhance the museum experience. The Center’s materials provide opportunities for visitors to make more meaningful connections with the art in the galleries and to take an art project home, reminding them of their visit to Gilcrease. Funded by the Grace and Franklin Bernsen Foundation.
Kids Site - Trappers and Traders!
The Kids Site has been transformed into a trading post and a river environment for Trappers and Traders, an interactive, multimedia space to learn and experience some of the life and times of these adventurers.
Experience a canoe ride, look for animals with fur that was precious to the Easterners, trade in the trading post, stamp animal tracks to take home, and read stories of adventurous explorers. Featuring interactive computer games and paint programs. See life in the West as only trappers and traders lived!
Kravis Discovery Center
This visible storage area is an interactive collections facility, providing access to thousands of objects relating to the early history of the Americas. From 12,000 year old Clovis points to 20th-century Plains Indian beadwork, the Kravis Discovery Center brings state-of-the-art technology and artifacts together for an exciting new look at our anthropology collection. The Kravis Discovery Center is overseen by volunteers each day. Our Kravis volunteers are happy to answer any questions visitors may have about the collection, how to use the computers, or anything else Center related. Funded by the Raymond and Bessie Kravis Foundation and George R. Kravis II.
