Chaperone Expectations
- Arrive at the museum with or before students.
- Docents and/or staff will greet the group at the main entrance of the museum. Help manage the group while school information is verified with museum security.
- Know who your group members are (usually around 10 students per adult chaperone) ahead of time, but assist with dividing students into groups if changes need to be made.
- Since docents and/or staff will lead the group into the museum and galleries, we ask that chaperones follow at the end of the line to monitor students' behavior.
- Correct poor student behavior as needed (e.g., talking out of turn, making inappropriate comments, not following the group, etc.).
- Remove a student from the group or the museum when multiple efforts have been made to correct poor behavior.
- Allow students to answer questions.
- Accompany any student who requires personal or medical assistance.
- Remain behind the group while moving between galleries in the museum.
- Refrain from talking to other adults and/or on cell phones during the tour.
- Accompany students to their final destination once the tour has ended.
