George Catlin - The Artist/Explorer Story

Imagine being a young man, one of the first to travel west to experience the way Native Americans lived long ago. George Catlin sold his law books and bought paints and paper, in defiance of his father's wishes. The call of the West was too strong. As an untrained artist, he was captivated by the beautiful people he found in his adventures. He painted Native Americans from almost 50 tribes. He traveled in land that later became Oklahoma, as well as Missouri, Kansas, Mississippi and Texas. Indians loved him. Catlin's authentic portraits and depictions of the natives' culture and lifestyle are enlightening and fun.
