Teresa Reed, Ph.D., associate dean and professor of music at The University of Tulsa, will discuss oral tradition – the practice of transmitting knowledge from one generation to the next through storytelling, chanting, singing, word games, and other spoken or verbal rituals. Using examples from the multicultural American experience, this program explores ways that oral tradition strengthens communal ties, preserves historical narrative, and embellishes its retelling.
From My Point of View is an informal presentation and audience participation is welcome. Bring a sack lunch to eat while you learn! (Note: Food/Drinks carried through the museum must be in closed containers.)
Free with museum admission.
